  Overview Inside Tips
Delve into natural history at the American Museum of Natural History, located on Central Park West at West 79th Street in Midtown Manhattan. Ever since the Museum opened in 1869, visitors have been coming through its doors to see wonders like the most impressive collection of dinosaur fossils in the world.
Satisfy your fascination with dinosaurs, fossils, mammals long since extinct and the like, through exhibits, state-of-the-art visual presentations, computer screens and interactive displays.
You'll get lost in the Museum's 42 halls, and become absorbed by the maze of exhibits on rare gems, meteorites, skeletons, fossils and more. Archeologists discovered these treasures all over the world. Now they're yours to discover and explore in clean, cool comfort right in New York City!
If you need high-tech glamour to grab your attention, take in a film at the IMAX theater. Viewing nature on a larger-than-life 40x66 foot screen stretching out overhead puts you right in the middle of the action.
The Hayden Planetarium is currently under reconstruction, and is expected to reopen next year. It will be reintroduced as the Center for Earth and Space but is closed for the time being.
Regardless of what you choose to see in the Museum, a visit will educate and entertain young and old alike - just don't lose each other in those 42 halls!
